About This Tracker

What This Site Does

The Iran War 2026 Energy Crisis Tracker is a free, real-time news aggregation and data visualization tool tracking the global impact of the 2026 US-Israel war on Iran, including the near-shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz.

The site automatically collects and displays breaking news, live commodity prices, country-level restrictions and emergency measures, and a running timeline of major events. It updates every 5 minutes using free, publicly available data sources. No personal data is collected.

Data Sources

GDELT Project (gdeltproject.org)
The Global Database of Events, Language and Tone monitors news media worldwide in real time. This site queries GDELT's free public API for articles matching crisis-related keywords. GDELT data is published under an open license.

Google News RSS
Public RSS feeds from Google News for specific search queries related to the Iran war, energy markets, and food supply chains.

Al Jazeera & BBC World RSS feeds
Public RSS news feeds from Al Jazeera and BBC World News, filtered for crisis-relevant articles.

Yahoo Finance
Live commodity prices (Brent Crude, WTI Crude, EU TTF Natural Gas, US Natural Gas futures) are fetched from Yahoo Finance's public market data endpoint.

Methodology

Articles are fetched from multiple sources, filtered by crisis-relevant keywords (Iran, Hormuz, oil, energy, fuel, gas, fertilizer, food crisis, war, gulf, OPEC), deduplicated by title, and sorted by publication time. Countries mentioned in each article are detected automatically using keyword matching and displayed in the country impact tracker.

Fertilizer prices (urea, ammonia) are estimates based on published market reports and are not live-traded data. All prices are for informational purposes only and do not constitute financial advice.
